Baptism 101

We decided to have Gavin baptized when he was a month and a half.  I wanted to do it before I went back to work, but nevertheless, preparations were still done in a rush.  I wanted a solo baptism for a more solemn ceremony.  This left us with fewer church choices.  We ended up selecting Sanctuario de San Jose Church in Greenhills.  They had a no fuss baptism reservation as long as the date and time slot is available and complete requirements (marriage certificate & birth certificate).  Thank goodness Asian Hospital was able to process the registration of Gavin's birth certificate a month after his birth, yey!  The church also did not require the sponsors to attend a seminar prior to the baptism, double yey!!!

Choosing where the lunch reception was also quite tricky.  We wanted to be able to invite as much family and friends as possible, but we had to work in a budget.  Studied on renting a place and getting a reasonable caterer, having it in a Chinese restaurant or getting a clubhouse to use.  We ended up having the lunch reception at Aracama Restaurant at The Fort.  We thought a day before that we won't be able to meet the guaranteed pax of 80, but ended up exceeding it with 110 guests on the actual day.  Glad that more people were able to meet Gavin.

We also worked with other suppliers such as Whipped By Diane (Diane Panlilio) for the cake and cupcakes and Pau Bengero for the photos.  Diane used to be my office ate at SSI and have now started her own cake business.  The salted caramel cupcakes for giveaways were delicious, as well as the carrot fondant stars infested cake :) my sister in law, Mylim also gifted Gavin with another stars fondant cake which she made and Tita Belen also gave cupcakes and revel balls doe dessert.  Of course, a celebration will not be complete without the signature pastille of San Miguel Bulacan.  With the influx of sweets, we had a dessert table tuloy!

The husband and wife team of Pau and Veronica Bengero were also note worthy.  I just chanced upon them via the Internet.  They were very professional and the photos were fantastic! Yun Lang nga, my husband forgot to take out his shades on his head so half of the photos, he had that silly shades on top, GURR :/

We also did a lot of DIY for the baptism.  We did the layout of the invitation ourselves, we also had it printed at the neighborhood print shop.  I also did the G table toppers using the Ikea frames we used for table numbers from our wedding.  I also just had the floral centerpieces made at the Bf market, whilst choosing the flowers myself and buying the vases in Dapitan. I also made the candles more interesting with washi tape and cupcake cups from Paper Chic Studio.

Gavin's church gown was my husband's baptism gown 34 years ago.  It's such a blessing that our son was ale to use it as well.  The dress was intricately made out of lace.  It was such a beauty.
His other outfits were from SM and his leather shoes w a star was from a Brazillian shoe store in ATC.

It was also a big help to register for the gifts so that Gavin will get presents that he can really use in the future.  Glad that our guests chose the ones we most liked :)

Lastly, the most important part of the whole day was Gavin joining the Carholic community.  The actual rites were solemn, short and sweet, just like what I hoped it to be.  Thank you for the godparents who were at the church early.  Looking forward to Gavin growing up with your guidance as well.

Instagram First Timer

Joined Instagram soon after my bday and have been enjoying it with the little one.
Here are some of our IG adventures! Enjoy!!!

Celebrating my 33rd

We recently celebrated my birthday and it felt like a lot of firsts all rolled into one.  It was the first time to celebrate it with our son, Gavin's first out of town trip, first time in a long time to go on a 'date' as well.  My husband surprised me with an pretty cool gift upon waking up.  It was just what I wished for :) haha, my language of love is gifts so I really wish that be it a small gift, dapat pinagisipan at effortful talaga!

We took the whole household to Tagaytay, hoping for some fresh cool air for the little one.

We visited Breakfast at Antonio's for a late lunch.  Sad to say that the servings at the new location were quite small so I'm a little bit disappointed.

Dessert was at Cafe Breton with my favorite banana and condensed milk crepe.
We also passed by the Pink Sisters' chapel before heading home.  There are a lot of blessings to be thankful for.

It started to rain pretty hard as we travelled back to Manila. Kasi naman, it always and forever rains on my birthday and all other important milestones in my life (who can forget our super rainy wedding? Hahaha).  My folks were stranded in a 4 hour traffic from QC to Alabang.  Hence, it was only my sister who was able to join us for dinner at Yaki Mix.  Thankfully, the parentals were able to join us for a Starbucks fix after dinner.

It was a sweet day to celebrate my 33rd :) every time I get older, I find myself enjoying more intimate celebrations instead of big ones.  Thanks to all loved ones who remembered me on my special day.

Hello Sunshine!

How can you not fall in love with this little guy? :)

Bulacan Bound

My husband is from San Miguel Bulacan and since we've started our fertility journey a month after our wedding in December 2011, he hasn't come home since January.  One and a half months after, we have journeyed back together with bulilit.  It's his first road trip, our first out of town and his first time to visit his dad's old place.

Everyone was excited to have Gavin "home" in San Miguel :)

We will forever be grateful to my parents for helping us out during the first weeks and for my in-laws as well for always coming over to visit us with Bulacan treats :) (chicharon, pastillas, etc etc.)

Home Sweet Home

After 7 weeks, Noel, Gavin and I went home to our own place in Kapitolyo.  It was hard to leave my parents' house with all of the help that we got every single day.  However, we need to adjust and to let bulilit settle into his own room before I go back to work in July.

Here's his room, which we managed to decently fix before moving back in :)

It's still a work in progress!

Leaving the Crib ... at NICu

Gavin was released from Asian Hospital's NICU last May 5, 2012.  We will be forever thankful to Dra. Marian Colasito as well as the team of nurses at the NICU.  Our adventure begins...for real na talaga!!!
For the first month, we'll be staying with my folks in BF to help us settle into our new role as parents :)

I Survived!

It has been a month since my last post!!! I didn't realize how much time taking care of a newborn entails.  These are the thoughts that come to mind as I look back on the past month:

1. Goodbye uninterrupted 8 hours of sleep
Since newborns wake up to feed every 3 hours, sleeping for long hours is now a distant memory.
2. Goodbye Candy Crush (for now)
3. Hello nap time!
You will learn to sleep every moment that you can...wherever you are.
4. Eat-Burp-Poop-Sleep repeat
If anything is missed in this cycle, a crying fit starts!
5. Thank you Lord for my breast pump, the AVENT sterilizer, portable nappy changer, Boppy pillow
Investing in good gadgets and tools will make your life a lot easier.
6. Finding a good stroller is like finding your true love, long and hard decision to make but will make your life a lot easier and happier if you found the right one
7. Shopping for the baby is more fun than shopping for yourself
8. A baby will make you drive slowly and extra carefully
You will guard the baby with your life :)
9. Grandparents are heaven sent
We will not have survived the first month without the help of the Lolas and Lolos
10.  A husband who comes home early and does the night shift with baby is my fervent wish ***
Sana 3x a week tong mangari, hehehe!

It has been a challenge, but a happy one!
After a month, Gavin is now 8lbs and has been drinking 4 ounces of milk per feeding.
We were already able to bring him out to a nearby coffee shop, resto and the neighborhood mall :)
We are looking forward to an easier 2nd month :)

Breastmilk is still Best for Babies

It was my wish to be able to breastfeed my son ever since I got pregnant. We got Medela's Freestyle Pump way before giving birth to force me to really breastfeed... ang mahal eh!!! However, due to Gavin's unforeseen stay at the NICU, I was not able to latch with him or even carry him after the delivery.  On his 3rd day, a kind NICU nurse asked if I have breast milk and I told her I don't know because I have never tried expressing since I gave birth days ago.  She then taught me to hand express. Lo and behold, I was able to produce a very small amount of colostrum, probably just 10cc which she said was enough.  A day after, it increased to 20cc, to 30cc and to 40cc.

When we went home ahead of Gavin, I asked Lita Nery (+639185557565), breast feeding consultant, to teach me how.  She was heaven sent!!! Ms. Lita patiently explained the rudiments of breast feeding and that you don't really need a pump because the most natural way is to hand express it. With her help, I was able to produce the most milk I have ever produced at 2 ounces! She also showed me how to make sure that I don't suffer from mastitis, engorgement and the likes.  I was wondering if I can do it all by myself when she left.

Thankfully, it was possible to do so.  Within days, it increased to 3 ounces too!
Honestly, hand expressing is tiresome, mega effort talaga, but it does make expressing not painful at all.  I switched to the pump after a few days as my "download" increased to 4 ounces to 6 ounces in a sitting :) galing talaga! Medela's is now my best friend :)

My Night Time Bedside

It has been truly a pain in the ass to wake up every 3 hours to pump, but I know that in the long run, this is the best gift that I can give my son- good health through the years.

I hope I can sustain it even when I go back to work.  My goal is to at least feed him with my milk for the first six months.  Then, let's see how it goes from there!
